Our Process

On The Path To Health, Wholeness And Healing

It’s not enough to know where you want to go, it’s imperative that you have a plan for how to get there. It’s also important to know what to expect. Even when Jesus called people to follow Him, He’d also tell them what they could expect if they made that choice. The basic process is listed here.

Keep in mind that while we are going to start any counseling with making and following a plan, we should be ready to give God permission to alter our plans so He can ultimately direct our steps (Proverbs 16:9).

Ready to Take The Next Step?

Individual Counseling

Whether you face emotional, relational or behavioral challenges, it can be helpful to work through those things in a confidential setting with someone you can trust. From anxiety, grief or depression to conflict, unforgiveness or addiction, Jesus came to set the captives free and individual counseling helps find freedom.

Couples Counseling

Marriage is hard but it doesn’t have to be hopeless. Whether you’re dating, engaged, married or even contemplating divorce, working together can bring you closer, bring healing to hurts and lay foundations for growth. If what you’ve tried so far isn’t working, maybe it’s time to try something else.

Family Counseling

Single parents, step kids, blended families, adoption, foster care, yelling, discipline, disrespect, miscommunication. There are nearly as many struggles for families as there are types of families. Since God designed the family, He also has something to say about it…to everyone and it’s important to hear what He has to say to you.

In Home Counseling

There can be varying reasons for why meeting at an office might not work. Maybe you don’t have time to travel there, or don’t want to risk being seen by others, or would just feel safer “on your own turf”. Whatever the reason, there is limited availability for in home counseling where I come to you or meet at a place you choose.

Virtual Counseling

Coordinating times and places and schedules while also keeping things private and confidential can sometimes prove difficult. Studies have shown that a strong case can be made where online counseling is just as effective as it would be if it were in person. All you need is a private space and some technology and everything at More Than Hope is HIPPA compliant – to protect your privacy.

Specialized Services

If your marriage is in a crisis, I’ve partnered with Marriage Rescue which offers 3, 4 or 5 Day marriage intensives. Love & Respect weekends can also be coordinated and scheduled for up to 6 couples at a time  You can find out more about either by clicking the links.

Initial Consultation

It can be awkward, uncomfortable and scary to even try counseling. What if I don’t like the counselor? Will I feel safe? Can they actually help me? What if we just don’t seem to connect? These are just some of the questions and concerns people have. We don’t expect you to just jump in without having some idea who you’d meet with or what to expect. You’re invited to book an initial phone consultation for absolutely no charge and with no commitment.

Intake Appointment

Once you’ve made the decision to commit to counseling, we’ll ask you to fill out some confidential intake forms using a HIPPA compliant and secure interface that will need to be completed prior to the first scheduled session. During that first intake appointment we’ll ask lots of questions, review and clarify what you already shared and take lots of notes to make sure we understand and remember where you’ve been and why you’re here. It’s during this appointment we’ll work to establish a plan we can follow in subsequent sessions. This initial intake appointment is usually 90 mins.

Counseling Sessions

The number of sessions will vary from person to person as will the frequency. Most often individuals, families or couples will begin by meeting weekly and then, as breakthrough and progress becomes clear, sessions can begin to be spaced out to every other week or monthly. All sessions will look to Scripture as the standard by which needs or growth as well as progress or problems are assessed and addressed. God has graciously shared with us what He wants for us and from us. He knows us. He gets us because He created us. What God has to say in His Word gives us a mirror that helps reveal any areas that don’t look like Jesus.

Evaluation & Support

People usually seek counseling to learn how to address or deal with specific issues, hurts and hang-ups. There are varying ways to determine how much progress has been made and how much work is left to be done and most often we will look for evidence a transformed life one that is becoming more and more conformed to the image of Jesus Christ. We’re here to help you get where you’re going and stay in the right place and on the right path once you get there.
